Ethernet Alliance names officers of IEEE 802.3 Ethernet working group
By Brian Santo
CedMagazine.com - April 16, 2008

The Ethernet Alliance announced that the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet working group has elected David Law of 3Com as the new chair and Wael William Diab of Broadcom as the new vice-chair.

Robert (Bob) Grow of Intel stepped down as the IEEE 802.3 working group chair, as he was recently appointed to be chair of the IEEE Standards Association's (IEEE-SA) Standards Board.

In addition to the newly elected leaders, David Law has appointed the following officers: Steve Carlson of High-Speed Design as executive secretary, Adam Healey of LSI as secretary and Brad Booth of AMCC as treasurer.

Law has served as vice-chair of the IEEE 802.3 working group since 1996. He currently serves as a member of the Ethernet Alliance board of directors and as chair of the IEEE-SA review committee. Diab served as secretary for the IEEE 802.3 working group prior to his election as vice-chair.

"This is an exciting time for the IEEE 802.3 working group as the next generation of Ethernet technologies continues to emerge and be developed," said Val Oliva, president of the Ethernet Alliance. "The Ethernet Alliance looks forward to supporting the new leadership in the IEEE 802.3 working group and to continue promoting the group's activities in 2008 and beyond."

Separately, the Ethernet Alliance announced that members AMCC, Avago Technologies, Broadcom, ClariPhy, Cortina Systems, ExceLight Communications, Finisar, Gennum, Inphi, Intel, JDSU, MergeOptics, NetLogic Microsystems, Opnext and Vitesse have successfully conducted multi-vendor interoperability testing of Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP+) short-reach (10GBASE-SR) and long-reach (10GBASE-LR) optical interfaces.
