Cox Communications to trim 460 jobs
By Mike Robuck
CedMagazine.com - November 04, 2008

Cox Communications will cut its workforce by 460 jobs, which comes to a 2 percent reduction from its roughly 23,000 employees.

Cox plans on using early retirement, attrition and possibly layoffs to reduce its workforce. The cuts will cross job categories and take place company-wide, including corporate, according to Cox spokesman David Grabert.

“Our customers will continue to receive the outstanding customer service that they have come to expect from Cox,” according to a statement by the company. “In today’s challenging business environment, many companies are taking steps to make their operations more efficient. Cox is undertaking this action to enhance our competitiveness, while allowing resource investment in new growth opportunities.

Privately held Cox Communications, which is a subsidiary of Cox Enterprises, is the nation’s third-largest cable operator, with more than 6.2 million residential and commercial customers for its triple-play services.

Last week, Cox unveiled its ambitious plan to build and launch its own wireless network by next year (story here).
