Comcast boosting upstream data speeds
By Brian Santo
CedMagazine.com - June 12, 2008

Comcast said that it is increasing upstream speeds nationally for its Performance and Performance Plus residential high-speed Internet customers at no additional cost.

Customers of the company’s Performance tier, which is currently rated at a maximum of 6 Mbps downstream/384 kbps upstream, will see upstream speeds increase to 1 Mbps. The upstream on the Performance Plus tier, now at 8 Mbps downstream/768 kbps upstream, will be boosted to 2 Mbps.

The increases anticipate speed increases that will come from the implementation of DOCSIS 3.0 technology.

Comcast recently launched its first DOCSIS 3.0 market in the Twin Cities (story here), offering data tiers with up to 50 Mbps download speed and 5 Mbps uploads.

The company said that it expects to deliver even faster speeds of up to 100 Mbps to its customers throughout the next two years, with the capability of delivering higher speeds of 160 Mbps or more in the future.
