Comcast to promote, sell services in Sears stores nationwide
By Traci Patterson
CedMagazine.com - November 21, 2008

Comcast has announced an agreement with Sears, Roebuck and Co. to promote and sell the operator’s digital cable TV, high-speed Internet and digital voice services in Sears stores nationwide.

SearsIn nearly 400 Sears stores, consumers will be able to sign up for Comcast’s services instantly; and in more than 100 of those stores, there will be an interactive HDTV display so that customers can see the features of the operator’s services and products.

“Our goal is to work with Sears to help customers experience instant gratification, knowing they’ll be live with Comcast when they set up their new electronic equipment at home, and the satisfaction of knowing that they have received the best price,” said Bob Faught, senior vice president of retail sales and alternative sales channels for Comcast.

Sears associates, who will be trained by Comcast, will be able to advise potential Comcast customers by using technology from e-commerce solutions provider Bridgevine, which offers real-time pricing and savings information. Bridgevine’s shopping engine will also allow Sears associates to sign up a customer for Comcast services, and to arrange for a Comcast technician to install the service at the customer’s home or business.

According to Comcast, new customers will receive a mail-in rebate of up to $100 for any one product purchase, and up to $250 for a triple-play purchase.

Comcast promotes and sells its services at other national and regional retail outlets, such as hhgregg (story here), with the sale of consumer electronics, including televisions, computers and phones. The operator said that it plans to expand to additional retail venues throughout 2008.
