Comcast bulks up HD in Seattle, Spokane
By Mike Robuck
CedMagazine.com - February 20, 2008

Comcast announced recently that it is launching six new high-definition (HD) channels in the state of Washington on March 4.

The new channels will include: Animal Planet HD, Discovery Channel HD, The Learning Channel (TLC) HD, Home and Garden TV (HGTV) HD, Food Network HD and Sci Fi HD.

The six new HD channels are in addition to the HD video-on-demand (VOD) content that Comcast provides, which includes more than 250 choices.

"With Comcast HD service, it's a matter of choice,” said Tom Pierce, VP of sales and marketing for Comcast in Washington State. “We offer more HD programming than any other provider, including 75 movies in HD and popular network shows available at any time. We're providing 31 HD channels, Seattle Sonics and Mariners games in HD, and more than 250 HD on-demand choices, and are quickly moving to our goal of having up to 1,000 HD choices available to our customers at any time.”

Comcast Chairman and CEO Brian Roberts said at last month’s International Consumer Electronics Show that that the nation’s largest cable operator will have 1,000 HD “choices” for Comcast customers by the end of the year.
