The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) is expected to announce later today that John Clark is no longer the president and CEO of the organization, and that Marv Nelson will serve as interim president while a search committee looks for Clark’s permanent replacement.

Clark’s SCTE contract was up for renewal, but the SCTE’s board of directors chose not to renew his contract . The board could have voted on Clark’s contract last week during a meeting at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in Philadelphia.

A source cited the SCTE’s desire to go in a different direction as the reason for not renewing Clark’s contract.

Clark is also leaving his position on the SCTE Foundation’s board of directors.

Clark had a 10-year stint as the SCTE’s leader. He served as president since 1998 and added the CEO title in 2000.

Clark was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the SCTE. According to his SCTE bio, he was instrumental in the SCTE’s major technical standards expansion and the launching of its Operación Español work diversity program.

In addition to being a Foundation board member, he has also served as the Foundation's chair of the fundraising committee, according to his bio.

Clark was awarded the 2003 NCTA Vanguard Award for Associates and Affiliates. Clark was inducted into the Cable Pioneers in 2001 and was named one of Cable’s Hundred Heavy Hitters in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. Clark is also both a CTAM TAMI and Case Study Award winner.

Clark graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and he also holds a Master of Business Administration from the same school.

Nelson is the SCTE’s VP of professional development.
