Cisco’s Linksys rolls out new wireless iPhone
By Mike Robuck
CedMagazine.com - March 19, 2008

Linksys, a division of Cisco, has announced the availability of its WIP310 iPhone.

The iPhone allows users to connect to their SIP and VoIP networks to make calls wirelessly instead of using a cellular network. Cisco said the phone integrates voice calls with Internet connectivity to connect users to multimedia content such as live weather updates and local searches.

“Our existing Linksys VoIP phone and ATA product family has been well received by the service provider community, but we felt there was room for a product that could provide the benefits of Wi-Fi connectivity with the robust feature-set our customers expect,” said Sherman Scholten, director of voice product management for Linksys.

“The WIP310 is designed to mesh wireless connectivity with IP telephony into a sleek form factor, offering service providers a compelling and cost-effective new solution ideal for consumers and small-business subscribers,” Scholten said.

The standards-based WIP310 phone is SIP-compliant and is designed to work with various standard-compliant IP phones and gateway products.

The phone will start shipping in the third quarter, with a retail price of $199.
