Charter Communications has joined the ranks of the cable industry's "Our Time to Vote" multicultural voter education and registration campaign.
Charter has committed $1.75 million of airtime for the program's public service announcements (PSAs), in addition to the $5 million already committed by Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications and Bright House Networks.
"Our Time to Vote" is a year-long, non-partisan voter education and registration campaign created by the Comcast Foundation, a non-profit trust of Comcast designed to increase voting in diverse communities served by the cable industry.
"Charter is pleased to contribute to this program,” said Grier Raclin, EVP and general counsel for Charter. “Broad participation in the democratic process is important to our country, and it is critical to supporting strong local communities. This campaign reflects the cable industry's commitment to active public citizenship."
The estimated $6.8 million campaign features four multicultural PSAs, as well as the creation and launch of two nationally available voter education resources: a Webpage and a voter information resources hotline (1.866.544.VOTE).
The PSAs, which started in December and will run through the primary elections, feature appearances by George Lopez, Margaret Cho and Lou Diamond Phillips, among other entertainers.
