• Velocix, MediaMelon join up for online HD video delivery

Velocix and MediaMelon are partnering up to deliver high-definition (HD) video over the Internet for content owners.

Velocix's digital delivery services are designed for large digital assets, such as HD video, and the company's cache delivery evens out the "bandwidth troughs" associated with standard peer-to-peer (P2P)-only solutions, the company said.

MediaMelon enables content owners to deliver HD-quality videos over the Internet that can be accessed and played from any Web browser. MediaMelon uses a combination of Internet delivery services, including P2P and network caching, to provide viewers with HD-quality video without interruption.

Verizon's FiOS TV service has been introduced to Wareham, Mass., making the video service available to nearly 10,000 additional Massachusetts households.

Wareham is among 66 Massachusetts communities where the company's new TV service is being offered. Verizon is currently negotiating with several other communities in Massachusetts to obtain additional franchises.

Massachusetts residents who are FiOS TV-eligible have the option to bundle their FiOS TV service, FiOS Internet service and Verizon Freedom Value unlimited calling plan for $104.99 per month.
