* Screen to Green initiative informs consumers about recycling TV sets
By Traci Patterson

October Strategies Inc., a communications agency, has announced the launch of “Screen to Green,” a new initiative to educate consumers about recycling their obsolete TV sets.

Many consumers are upgrading to high-definition televisions (HDTVs), and the initiative aims to inform consumers about the environmental impact that tossing their old analog sets can cause – such as toxicity in landfills.

Screen to Green provides a program, created as a resource for cable operators, to inform consumers about responsible TV recycling. Operators participating in the program can invite consumers to responsibly discard their unused TVs at a local community "Recycling Rally."

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), about 25 million TVs are taken out of service each year.
