* Gemstar-TV Guide, MobiTV ink patent license agreement for mobile IPG

Gemstar-TV Guide has signed a patent license agreement with MobiTV Inc. that includes the rights related to interactive program guides (IPGs) for mobile video, which is made available through the MobiTV service.

The rights apply for video delivered directly by MobiTV and delivered by mobile and broadband service providers via MobiTV. Specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“Due to the ever-expanding amount of video content available, we believe that interactive guidance technology is quickly becoming a must-have tool, not only for the TV at home, but for other emerging platforms, including online, IPTV and mobile,” said Rich Cusick, Gemstar-TV Guide’s SVP for digital media.

* Mixed Signals promotes Donnelly

Mixed Signals – a provider of digital content monitoring including digital services, transport streams, ad insertion, switched digital video (SDV) and interactive content – has promoted Dan Donnelly to the newly created position of SVP of global sales and marketing.

For the past two years, Donnelly has led the company’s sales team. In his new role, Donnelly will continue Mixed Signals’ top ranking in the North American cable market and expand the company’s sales and marketing operations into Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America (CALA), and Asia-Pacific.

* Motorola to supply Mexican WiMAX provider

Motorola will provide base stations and customer premise equipment (CPE) for an initial WiMAX deployment by Axtel, a fixed-line integrated telecommunications company in Mexico. Axtel plans to provide the service in 12 cities.

Axtel will purchase equipment to install 802.16e WiMAX radio base stations (access points), voice and data CPE and PCMCIA cards. Indoor CPE's with Wi-Fi functionality and USB dongles will also be available for WiMAX.

Deployment of WiMAX technology has begun in Monterrey, Puebla and Guadalajara, with more cities coming soon.

* Openwave appoints Levine to board, announces CFO’s departure

Openwave Systems Inc. has appointed Charles Levine as the company’s non-executive chairman of the board. He replaces interim chairman Robert Vrij, who will continue as Openwave’s president and CEO. The company also announced the departure of CFO Jean-Yves Dexmier. His replacement has not been named yet.

Openwave creates software applications and infrastructure that is designed to enable revenue-generating, personalized services that converge the mobile and broadband experience across all of a user’s devices.
