* Google makes more than $1B in Q4

Google reported Q4 2007 revenue of $4.8 billion, an increase of 51 percent compared with the fourth quarter of 2006. Net income was $1.2 billion, compared with $1 billion in the fourth quarter of 2006. Non-GAAP net income in the fourth quarter was $1.4 billion, compared with $1.2 billion in the third quarter of 2007.

Google said its partner sites generated revenues, through AdSense programs, of $1.6 billion, or 34 percent of total Q4 revenues. The company said that represents a 37 percent increase compared with network revenues of $1.2 billion generated in the fourth quarter of 2006.

* Occam, MetaSwitch get N.M. telco orders

Occam Networks said that ENMR Plateau Telecommunications has purchased Occam’s Broadband Loop Carrier (BLC) 6000 system.

ENMR plans to upgrade its voice and DSL services over the next 3 years. ENMR Plateau is a co-op that manages 13,000 lines across 25,000 square miles in New Mexico. Its upgrade will include the deployment of more than 200 Occam blades to replace the system’s existing local loop and DSLAM solutions with both POTS-only and POTS/ADLS2+ combination blades. 

ENMR Plateau has also purchased Occam’s new GPON offering to supplement copper services in one of its exchanges. ENMR will implement the SIP-enabled VoIP, served by a MetaSwitch softswitch and high-speed DSL, to its members.

* Verizon’s high-speed Internet hits Maine

Verizon's high-speed Internet service is now available to consumers and businesses in the Maine communities of Columbia, Danforth, Frenchville, Georgetown, Monson, North Whitefield, Pownal and The Forks. Verizon has also expanded availability of the broadband service, based on DSL technology, in Lewiston, Ogunquit, Portland, Scarborough and Topsham.

The expanded availability of Verizon’s high-speed Internet is part of its $12 million broadband expansion project, announced in August, to equip more than 20 Verizon central offices and 70 remote terminals with DSL technology, the company said.
