Covergence appoints new CEO
By Brian Santo

Covergence has named James M. Moran president and CEO. Moran brings more than 20 years of experience to the company. He was co-founder and EVP of edocs Corp. Prior to that, he had been an executive with Virtusa Corp. and CheckFree Corp.

Covergence is a privately held supplier of session border control (SBC) and session management products.

“Jim is the ideal choice to lead Covergence through its next stage of growth,” said Sean Dalton, general partner of Highland Capital Partners. “With the enterprise market rapidly emerging, Jim’s strong enterprise background and proven track record, combined with his ability to create and manage high-performance teams, will ensure that Covergence is well positioned for its next phase of growth.”

Exfo releases Web-based fiber monitoring solution
By Traci Patterson

Exfo Electro-Optical Engineering has released the NQMSfiber 5.0, a Web-based fiber monitoring solution that centralizes fiber optic network assurance, enabling improved operation and maintenance.

The element management system (EMS) software release offers the most complete range of features for all network applications in which optical fibers and cables are mission-critical, the company said. And NQMSfiber 5.0 is the only EMS software on the market in which all access and reporting functions are Web-based, according to the company.

“This latest version of NQMSfiber delivers the intelligence that customers have been demanding from their fiber monitoring solutions and sets a new standard for remote fiber test systems,” said Etienne Gagnon, Exfo’s VP of product management and marketing. “The combined benefits of Exfo’s best-of-class OTDRs and automated functionalities within the most advanced fiber monitoring solution allow NSPs to avoid network disruptions or accelerate restoration time without the need for complex and time-consuming configurations.”

Sangoma to acquire Paraxip
By Traci Patterson

Sangoma Technologies Corp. is set to acquire all of the shares of Paraxip Technologies Inc. for $4.8 million.

Sangoma provides PC-based hardware and software for proprietary and open-source networking and telephony solutions, and Paraxip develops IP connectivity software for the deployment of IP telephony applications.

The integration of Paraxip's SIP-based NetBorder suite into Sangoma's product line provides Sangoma with a growth path that includes the unified communications (UC) market, IP contact centers, commercial interactive voice response solutions and other SIP-based telephony markets, the company said.
