Brightcove supporting Google’s AdSense technology
By Traci Patterson
CedMagazine.com - February 21, 2008

Brightcove is now supporting Google’s contextual advertising technology – AdSense for video beta.

Brightcove customers – including CBS Corp., Discovery Communications, Fox Entertainment Group, MTV Networks, Showtime Networks and Time Inc. – will now have an additional and complimentary advertising opportunity available to monetize video streams across their Web properties.

Google’s AdSense technology selects targeted ads based on both the content in an Internet video and the context of a Web page. Publishers and content providers can decide which ads are paired with which Internet videos, and also when the ads will play during each video.

"Monetization of online video continues to be critically important to all video producers," said Will Richmond, president of Broadband Directions. "The market for ad-supported video is evolving, with lots of different approaches. Building from existing, successful approaches and technologies is a smart strategy, especially when it comes to capturing revenue from periodic traffic spikes and remnant inventory."

AdSense for video beta is currently available through Brightcove in a limited beta release with select customers, and the company said it expects to make the feature generally available to publishers in 2008.
