Bright House’s Babinski takes Cable-Tec Games gold

Gregory Babinski of Bright House Networks and New Port Richey, Fla., was the winner of the 18th-Annual SCTE International Cable-Tec Games.

Babinski, representing SCTE Region 9 and the SCTE Central Florida Chapter, beat out 27 other competitors from the U.S. and Canada.

Chad Whitesel of Comcast, the SCTE Penn-Ohio Chapter and Carrolltown, Pa., took second place overall. He was representing SCTE Region 11. Meanwhile, Bob Colwell of Comcast, the SCTE New England Chapter and Portsmouth, N.H., achieved third place overall. His chapter is located in SCTE Region 12.

The individuals who took first place in each event were:

  • Meter Reading: Dennis Schuler of Cablevision in West Nyack, N.Y., and the SCTE New Jersey Chapter, SCTE Region 11
  • MTDR: Gregory Babinski of Bright House Networks
  • Fiber Splicing: Gregory Babinski of Bright House Networks
  • Coax Splicing: Bob Colwell of Comcast
  • Drop Connection: Gregory Babinski of Bright House Networks
  • Cable Jeopardy: Chad Whitesel of Comcast

CommScope and the SCTE sponsored the event. The event hosts were AFL Telecommunications; CommScope; Corning Cable Systems; Corning Gilbert; Graham Stubbs Associates; Greenlee; JDSU; Jones/NCTI; PPC; Radiodetection; Thomas & Betts; Times Fiber Amphenol; and Trilithic.
