Bresnan chooses Mixed Signals’ Sentry monitoring solution
By Traci Patterson
CedMagazine.com - January 15, 2008

Bresnan Communications is utilizing Mixed Signals’ Sentry digital content monitor to provide its subscribers with enhanced picture and sound quality.

Sentry’s historical reporting capability – combined with its ability to monitor programming at the MPEG, IP and quality levels – enables Bresnan to quickly identify the root cause of any digital content issues.

“Sentry allows us to monitor our programming all the way to the quality of experience level, thus giving us the ability to ensure service quality and identify and resolve issues before subscribers are affected,” said Pragash Pillai, Bresnan’s VP of strategic engineering.

The monitoring solution can identify hundreds of issues – including video freeze, video black, and the loss of single and multichannel audio, which represent the bulk of trouble calls from subscribers. Sentry can also ensure the accuracy of digitally inserted advertisements, and it can simplify the delivery of data to set-top boxes (STBs) via tru2way – formerly the OpenCable Application Platform – and other carousels.

Sentry’s single rack unit (RU) form factor can be deployed in any key location in a cable network, enabling operators to monitor content throughout their networks.

Bresnan offers video, voice and data services to more than 300,000 subscribers in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming and Utah.
