Amino Communications is set to acquire Tilgin AB’s IPTV set-top box division.

Based in Kista, Sweden, Tilgin IPTV is an edge technology player in the European IPTV market, and the company offers a variety of H.264 IPTV STBs within its Mood product line.

The purchase of Tilgin IPTV will enhance Amino’s product portfolio, according to the company, and will add new software functionality across Amino’s “entire range.”

Amino specializes in products and technology for IPTV, Internet TV and in-home multimedia distribution . The company said that it provides telecom and broadcast customers with a “front door” to IPTV via a range of software and STB systems that can be tailored to offer scalable, targeted systems.

New features stemming from the acquisition could include picture-in-picture, whole-home connectivity and green-power, Amino said. Through the acquisition, Amino would also have access to additional middleware solutions – from Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks.

“Tilgin IPTV is the perfect acquisition for Amino, delivering an extended product portfolio with exciting leading-edge features, as well as valuable middleware partners and wider customer reach,” said Andrew Burke, CEO of Amino. “The market is demanding consolidation coupled with innovation, and Amino is ideally placed to deliver this elusive mix as the shape and nature of the IPTV industry evolves.”
