Service providers are looking to maximize profi tability as they introduce advanced services such as content on demand, network DVR (nDVR), and switched digital video (SDV). Two of the most important elements to increasing the return on investment are more programming and increased advertising sponsorship of such programming.

This webcast outlines new opportunities and technologies for supporting advanced advertising in a variety of delivery scenarios, including VOD, SDV, and interactive broadcast. “Advanced advertising” is characterized by one or more of the following characteristics:

It is tailored to individual viewers’ personal interests, which is sometimes referred to as targeted or addressable advertising.

It involves subscriber feedback through mechanisms such as OCAP or ETV/EBIFF clients. This feedback may be a request to telescope to a long form ad or may be a request for a web coupon to be sent via email, etc.

On-demand services are ideal opportunities for advanced advertising. Real world examples will be discussed, with lessons learned and next steps. SDV environments also provide opportunities for advanced advertising, but there are challenges with SDV advertising, which will also be outlined.

Even broadcast environments can support types of advanced advertising. These include interactive ads and client addressable advertising.

For each of the above delivery systems, back offi ce architectures will be described. Basic information fl ows will be included as well as the support of existing and emerging standards.
