ActiveVideo gears up for CES show
By Mike Robuck
CedMagazine.com - December 18, 2008

With the Consumer Electronics Show looming large next month in Las Vegas, ActiveVideo Networks said it will debut the company’s ActiveVideo platform for consumer electronics devices at the show.

The platform is designed to enhance consumers’ Web-based TV viewing experiences, and it will be showcased with a variety of semiconductor, new media and consumer electronics (CE) companies.

ActiveVideo streams traditional programming and Web-based content to any digital set-top box or Web-connected CE device . The company said the platform combines the personalized, dynamic, socially connected experience that viewers have come to expect from the Web with the quality, immediacy and remote-control navigation that is expected of television.

The ActiveVideo said the CES demonstrations will include:

  • The ability of the ActiveVideo Networks software client to be integrated easily and inexpensively into existing Integrated Circuit designs.
  • The ability of ActiveVideo to drive the development of new, Web-based applications that can increase the functionality and value of CE devices.
  • The ability of ActiveVideo to create a media-friendly environment in which consumers can navigate seamlessly from interactive portals to a full range of intelligently streamed content.

“For Web-infused television to succeed on a macro level, it needs to be as accessible to consumers as the television programming they already enjoy,” said Jeff Miller, president and CEO of ActiveVideo. “ActiveVideo creates a user-friendly, Web-infused television environment that increases the value of new CE devices by eliminating the need to purchase a specific Web-to-TV device and integrate it into the home network and in-house entertainment system.”
