AT&T predicts slower sales on consumer side
By Mike Robuck
CedMagazine.com - January 09, 2008

AT&T Chairman and CEO Randall Stephenson expects the company’s broadband and wireline phone sales to consumers to slow down, according to a story by the Associated Press.

Stephenson delivered the news at Citigroup’s Entertainment, Media and Telecom Conference in Phoenix.

Stephenson said that the downturn in the U.S. economy hasn’t hurt AT&T’s wireless business, or the company’s sales to enterprise and small- and medium-size businesses, and that the majority of the slowdown is coming from service disconnections due to a lack of payment on those lines.

AT&T is the nation’s largest wireless operator with 65.7 million subscribers. The consumer broadband and wireline businesses account for less than 20 percent of the company’s revenue.

AT&T is slated to report its fourth-quarter earnings on Jan. 24.
