Suddenlink inks outside sales channel deal with Telarus

Suddenlink Communications has signed a deal with Telarus that allows the latter to resell its portfolio of small, medium and enterprise broadband and voice services. The deal marked Suddenlink’s entry into the outside sales channel sector, which will help the nation’s seventh-largest cable operator reach higher-end business clientele.

To coincide with students going back to school, Cable One announced it had lowered the price on its 50 Mbps down, 2 Mbps up data tier to $35 a month. The promotion lasts for the first three months of service, and is available for a limited time. 

Report: Carrier router/switch market is booming in 2Q

Based on second quarter numbers for the carrier router and switch market, service providers started opening up their wallets in the second quarter of this year. Globally, service provider router and switch revenue was up 27 percent, to $4 billion, in the second quarter of this year from the first quarter, according to a report by Infonetics Research.

Ace to roll out whole-home DVR

Ace Communications will begin rolling out whole-home DVR services using set-tops sourced from its current STB supplier, Amino Communications. The service provider will use Amino's A140 single stream and A540 devices to support whole home DVR services.

Verizon’s announcement that it negotiated a retransmission consent agreement with CBS Corp. to distribute CBS on its FiOS network was a masterwork of veiled digs at Time Warner Cable, which is engaged in an epic battle of wills with the broadcaster over retrans fees.

Cox Business reaches for cloud with ViaWest

This morning Cox Business announced a strategic partnership with ViaWest that will enable it to offer commercial customers secure fiber network connectivity along with compliant colocation and cloud infrastructure services. Cox Business will start offering ViaWest’s services to customers initially in its Las Vegas, Phoenix and Southern California markets.

Mediacom tunes up TVE web portal with Synacor

Mediacom Communications has extended its four-year deal with Synacor, which included beefing up its web portal with more TV Everywhere services. The new web portal site gives Mediacom subscribers access to additional content and services from one online location with a single login for authentication.

AT&T gives wings to Delta’s in air point-of-sales

AT&T has signed a multi-year agreement with Delta Air Lines to enable better in-flight mobile point-of-sale transactions by flight attendants. AT&T will equip Delta’s 19,000 flight attendants with Nokia Lumia 820 devices powered by Microsoft Dynamics mobile point-of-sale platform on Windows Phone 8.

Cox partnership offers $9.95 Internet to poor RI families

Low-income families in Rhode Island are eligible for reduced-price computers and Internet access through a new program that aims to eliminate the digital disadvantages of growing up poor. The initiative, announced Wednesday, is a joint effort by Cox Communications and Connect2Compete, a national nonprofit organization that works to bridge what it calls the "digital divide."

Netflix of video games: Twitch coming to PS4

The popular video game footage streaming service will be available on Sony's next-generation PlayStation 4 when it's released Nov. 15 in the U.S. and Canada. By tapping the new "share" button on the PS4 controller, users will be able to broadcast gameplay directly to Twitch. Microsoft announced similar Twitch integration earlier this year for its upcoming Xbox One.

The company’s Dynamic Broadband Service Manager (DBSM) can now operate as a software-defined networking (SDN) controller, pulling management of the network up the OSI stack.  Active Broadband Networks has expanded the capabilities of its service management system to provide common control and active management of broadband services across different types of access networks, including cable, DSL, FTTH and WiFi.

Comcast Business announced that Synnex, a nationwide distributor of IT products and services, has joined its Solutions Providers Program as the first distributor to serve as a master agent. Synnex, which serves thousands of value added resellers (VARs) across the country, offers Comcast Business’ full line of Ethernet, Internet, voice, cloud and video services.

Report: Cable operators make headway on Ethernet

Cable operators had a strong showing on Vertical System Group’s recent mid-year Ethernet Leaderboard. Cable MSOs now comprise 20 percent of the total Ethernet port base in the United States while Incumbent Carrier segment remained the largest with 47 percent, followed by the Competitive Provider segment’s 33 percent.

Facebook aims to get more people online

Facebook wants to get more of the world's more than 7 billion people — all of them, actually — online through a partnership with some of the world's largest mobile technology companies. Facebook Inc. announced a partnership called Internet.org on Wednesday. In addition to the world's biggest online social network, the group also includes Korean electronics giant Samsung, Finnish handset maker Nokia and wireless chip maker Qualcomm Inc.
