Turner turns to Adobe Primetime

Adobe announced a set of new analytics features for its PrimeTime product that will make it easier to both monitor the quality of TV everywhere streams and evaluate viewer behavior. The new capabilities come with a new per-stream pricing model. Adobe also announced thatTBS is the latest customer of Primetime.


Charter subs in Calif. dial up unlimited long distance calls to Mexico

As part of a new promotion, Charter Communications’ voice customers in California can place unlimited calls to landlines in Mexico. The promotion also includes up to 250 minutes of calling to cell phones in Mexico with the Charter Phone Unlimited plan in California and a subscription to the Triple Play PaqueTV Plus package.


Oceanic TWC adds two Asian Networks to channel lineup

Oceanic Time Warner Cable has added two Asian networks, TVK2 and Saigon Broadcasting Television Network (SBTN), to its channel lineup. TVK2, which is a sister channel to TVK, targets a growing Korean-American audience and features music, lifestyle, drama, news and current event programs in both Korean and English. 


SCTE preps for natural disasters at Expo session

The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) will host a special standards session at Expo that will focus on helping cable operators prepare for natural disasters. The will include a discussion on current and planned SCTE standardization and best-practice activities well as a panel of industry experts.

AT&T adds six more markets to home services footprint

The next six stops on AT&T’s home automation rollout tour will be Charlotte, Hartford, Jacksonville, Milwaukee, Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Including the new markets launching on Friday, Digital Life will be available in 45 markets. AT&T said it intends to have the service  in up to 50 markets by the end of this year.


TWC Media boots up TVE ads

Time Warner Cable Media today announced the launch of a new advertising platform that lets marketers customize and target their brand messages in live programming from televisions to tablets across more than 50 cable networks. Time Warner Cable Media (TWC Media) said its TWC Media Ads Everywhere was the first multi-screen ad service for iOS and Android devices.


Rogers binges on data centers

Rogers Communications announced this morning that it had plunked down $155 million for Pivot Data Centres and $6.25 million for Granite Networks with both being cash deals. Pivot and Granite’s data centers are in addition to those that were acquired earlier this year when Roger Business Solutions bought Blackiron Data for $200 million in cash


CME tees up IP STB service with Alticast

Central European Media Enterprises (CME) has picked Alticast to enable its subscription VOD service, which is slated to launch in the Czech Republic this month. CME is using Alticast’s AltiPlatform and AltiView, which allows the broadcaster to launch pure IP set-top box services throughout its markets.


AT&T gets nod from FCC on Alltel deal

AT&T has recieved final FCC approvel of its acquisition of Atlantic Tele-Network, Inc.’s U.S. retail wireless assets operated under the Alltel brand. As part of the deal, AT&T acquired wireless properties in six states, including spectrum licenses, network assets, retail stores and approximately 590,000 subscribers.


Cross-platform ad campaigns catch more consumers

A recent ad campaign run by Comcast Media 360 demonstrates that ads on TV and ads delivered via broadband-connected platforms affect significantly different consumer groups. The implication is that multi-screen delivery, which service providers are still struggling to monetize, can be highly valuable in ad campaigns by reaching different consumer constituencies.


Zanaware sets up services operation

Zanaware Technologies has established a separate unit specifically to provide customized headend management solutions for broadcast, cable, MPEG/digital video, satellite and IPTV. Service options may include: extension of Zanaware’s platform, development hardware/software solution, or a hybrid combination.


EU antitrust body OKs Vodafone's German cable deal

The European Union's antitrust watchdog has cleared a 7.7 billion-euro ($10 billion) takeover of Germany's biggest cable operator by British telecoms firm Vodafone PLC.  Meanwhile, Verizon Communications is buying back a 45 percent stake in Verizon Wireless currently held by Vodafone.


Rogers’ expands home automation service footprint

Rogers Communications is now offering its home automation and security platform in 28 additional cities across Newfoundland and New Brunswick. Rogers, which uses an IP-based dual network connection to enable the platform, is offering Rogers Smart Home Monitoring in both English and French in the new service areas.


Universal Sports Network inks distribution deal with Cox

Universal Sports Network announced it has a distribution deal in place with Cox Communications. Cox is offering Universal Sports Network’s Olympic, endurance and adventure sports programming to its Cox Advanced TV subscribers. The multi-year deal also granted Cox TV Everywhere rights.


Liberty Global envisions pan-Europe Wi-Fi network

Liberty Global executive Peter Dorr raised the possibility of creating a pan-European Wi-Fi network that would be free to cable subscribers. Dorr also spoke about the ease with which Liberty Global was able to update its Horizon multi-screen service, which is based on ActiveVideo’s cloud-based technology.
