Cablevision sings a new TVE tune with Music Choice

Thanks to a new TV Everywhere-based agreement, Cablevision’s video subscribers are now able to tune into Music Choice’s 46 commercial free music channels and videos across the nation on any broadband connection. Music Choice’s collection of on demand music, which is grouped by categories, is available via Optimum’s TV to Go platform on computers and supported portable devices, including laptops, tablets and smartphones.


Comcast hires Stutts as new regional VP of external affairs for California

Comcast has named Mary Stutts to the to the newly-created position of regional vice president of external affairs for Comcast California. In her new job, Stutts will report to Hank Fore, regional senior vice president for Comcast California. She will oversee all aspects of Comcast’s communications, government affairs, community investment and telecommunications policy matters throughout the state. 


Yahoo tunes into mobile video with new application

Yahoo is auditioning for a bigger role on iPhones and iPads with the release of its first mobile application tailored for watching video on touch-control screens. The app, called Yahoo Screen, is set up to make the experience of sifting through video on smartphones and tablet computers more like channel surfing on a television.


AT&T reaches Pac-12, BeIN Sport agreements

AT&T has added three Pac-12 television agreements and BeIN Sport programming to its channel lineup. This morning AT&T announced that its U-verse subscribers could now view more than 700 live Pac-12 events, including 32 football games, on Pac-12 Networks.


ThinkAnalytics tees up sports recommendations

ThinkAnalytics has kicked off a new sports metadata library, which is called ThinkSports, that enables personalized recommendations for viewers’ favorite teams, athletes and sporting events. ThinkSports integrated Thuuz Sports’ service to offer personalized sports recommendations with support for more than 50 sports across 20 countries, and in 17 languages.


RGB, Conax partner up on TV Everywhere platform

RGB Networks has struck a deal with Conax to help service providers deliver secure adaptive bit rate (ABR) TV Everywhere services to their authenticated subscribers. With the partnership, the companies are integrating RGB’s TransAct Packager with Conax’s conditional access/digital rights (DRM) platform to ensure multi-screen services are delivered to the correct viewers.

Arris announced its own version of a Sling Box, built in conjunction with Sling Media. The Arris MS4000 can offer up to 4 simultaneous HD channels, of both live and on-demand content to mobile devices. It will be commercially available starting in the first quarter of 2014.


Microsoft adopts Jinni's discovery tool for Xbox

Microsoft has signed a multi-year contract to use Jinni’s discovery software on its Xbox. Jinni’s Entertainment Genome uses knowledge of every show and movie in the Xbox Video catalog to help the Xbox recommendations system connect Xbox users to content they might favor watching.


Bright House Networks’ HD hospitality service blossoms in Fla.

After making its debut last year, Bright House Networks Business Solutions’ “Set Back Box”—based HD video service is gaining traction throughout hospitality markets in Orlando and Tampa Bay, Fla. The set back boxes, which are provided by ADB, are unobtrusive devices that are mounted to the back of TVs in the hotels.


Cox tabs Faulkner to head up home security, home automation division

Cox Communications announced that Kristine Faulkner, who has played a key role in the company’s’ commercial services efforts, will lead the cable operator’s home security and home automation division. As the new vice president and general manager of Home Security and Smart Home, Faulkner will oversee all related operational strategies, including marketing, sales and customer experience.


Cisco splits service provider group; hires Cozzolino

Cisco has split its Service Provider Video Technology Group into two, with one operation handling largely software and the other mostly hardware. The company hired Joe Cozzolino, until recently the SVP and general manager of Network Infrastructure at Arris, to head the hardware portion of its business.


TWC adds AMC to out-of-home VOD roster

Time Warner Cable is now serving up episodes of AMC’s “Mad Men,” “The Walking Dead,” “Breaking Bad,” and other shows out-of-home on its TWC TV app. The AMC video content is the latest addition to Time Warner Cable’s out-of-home VOD offering, which was first announced on iOS devices in April. 


SeaChange interim CFO is permanent

Ericsson wraps acquisition of Mediaroom

Ericsson wrapped up its acquisition of Microsoft’s Mediaroom business and TV solution. The operation will be integrated into the Ericsson group under the business unit support solutions, and will be called Ericsson Mediaroom as of today. The operation will continue to be managed from Silicon Valley.
