Starting March 18, Time Warner Cable will offer four channels from Epix, and give its digital basic tier customers a free three-month trial. The four channels are Epix, Epix 2, Epix 3 and Epix Drive-in. Epix will be available in HD and SD, and on Time Warner Cable’s VOD service, while Epix Drive-In will be offered in SD.
Time Warner Cable Business Class is now offering healthcare facilities an HD video service that mimics the in-home viewing experience for patients. The service, which is called “HD Video for Healthcare,” provides HD video, free VOD programming, an interactive program guide and the ability to pause live TV to hospitals, doctor’s offices, long-term care facilities and other medical facilities.
Apple is accelerating the race to make smartphone applications easier and safer to use in cars. Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo are previewing Apple's iPhone technology for cars this week at an auto show in Geneva. The partnerships give Apple an early lead over Google's loosely knit family of Android phones in a duel to make mobile applications more accessible.

The company is currently working with Sprint to deploy fixed mobile broadband on a trial basis in Corpus Christi. The trial is scheduled for later this year.

According to a recent report, last year one out of every 10 pay TV households had access to applications on set-top boxes, including apps for news and information services, service provider specific apps, over-the-top (OTT) video, games, and music services. AT&T’s authenticated subscribers can now view 27 additional live channels with the U-verse App for tablets and smartphones. With the latest additions, U-verse TV customers can now watch a total of 136 live channels inside the home and 44 live channel outside of their homes.
The organization in charge of Internet addresses is pushing a major expansion in domain name suffixes. At least 160 suffixes have been added since October to join the ranks of ".com," ''.org" and scores of country-specific ones such as ".uk" for the United Kingdom. Hundreds of other proposals are being reviewed.

SMC Networks said that it has achieved DOCSIS 3.0 certification for four products – a cable modem, an eMTA, and two gateways. SMC previously had three products certified by CableLabs as DOCSIS 3.0 compliant: an 8x4 Data Gateway, 8x4 MoCA capable Voice Gateway and 16x4 Data Gateway.
It was a bountiful fourth quarter for the Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP) market in general and vendor Casa Systems in particular. In the fourth quarter of last year, CCAP channel shipments spiked up 192 percent compared to the previous quarter, according to a recent report by Infonetics Research.

The Academy Awards ceremony will stream live online for the first time to select cable providers in eight U.S. cities. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and ABC announced Thursday that Sunday's telecast will be available online and on mobile devices. A cable or satellite subscription login is required for the live stream at Oscar.com and ABC.com, or via the mobile app WatchABC.com.
Video streaming company Hulu says it's selling its business in Japan to Nippon TV. A price wasn't disclosed. Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins says Hulu had grown to a point where it believed the best path forward was to sell its Japan business to a strategic buyer.
Time Warner Cable Business Class has now earned MEF CE 2.0 certifications for all eight service configurations, after receiving Carrier Ethernet (CE) 2.0 certifications from the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) for its Wholesale E-Access (Access EPL/Access EVPL) services.
