BlackBerry today announced that it has agreed to sell itself for $4.7 billion to a consortium ed by Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited, which plans on taking the Canadian OEM private. BlackBerry shareholders would receive $9 in cash for each share of BlackBerry that they hold.
Regional carrier C Spire, formerly known as Cellular South, Tuesday unveiled an ambitious plan to move forward with the deployment of 1 Gbps ultra high-speed fiber to the home. Hu Meena, president and CEO of C Spire Wireless, said in a statement that to unlock "the potential of broadband for the communities we serve requires taking optical fiber all the way to their door.”

Adobe announced a set of new analytics features for its PrimeTime product that will make it easier to both monitor the quality of TV everywhere streams and evaluate viewer behavior. The new capabilities come with a new per-stream pricing model. Adobe also announced thatTBS is the latest customer of Primetime.
As part of a new promotion, Charter Communications’ voice customers in California can place unlimited calls to landlines in Mexico. The promotion also includes up to 250 minutes of calling to cell phones in Mexico with the Charter Phone Unlimited plan in California and a subscription to the Triple Play PaqueTV Plus package.
Oceanic Time Warner Cable has added two Asian networks, TVK2 and Saigon Broadcasting Television Network (SBTN), to its channel lineup. TVK2, which is a sister channel to TVK, targets a growing Korean-American audience and features music, lifestyle, drama, news and current event programs in both Korean and English.

Time Warner Cable Media (TWC Media) said its TWC Media Ads Everywhere was the first multi-screen ad service for iOS and Android devices.
Rogers Communications announced this morning that it had plunked down $155 million for Pivot Data Centres and $6.25 million for Granite Networks with both being cash deals. Pivot and Granite’s data centers are in addition to those that were acquired earlier this year when Roger Business Solutions bought Blackiron Data for $200 million in cash
Central European Media Enterprises (CME) has picked Alticast to enable its subscription VOD service, which is slated to launch in the Czech Republic this month. CME is using Alticast’s AltiPlatform and AltiView, which allows the broadcaster to launch pure IP set-top box services throughout its markets.
AT&T has recieved final FCC approvel of its acquisition of Atlantic Tele-Network, Inc.’s U.S. retail wireless assets operated under the Alltel brand. As part of the deal, AT&T acquired wireless properties in six states, including spectrum licenses, network assets, retail stores and approximately 590,000 subscribers.
A recent ad campaign run by Comcast Media 360 demonstrates that ads on TV and ads delivered via broadband-connected platforms affect significantly different consumer groups. The implication is that multi-screen delivery, which service providers are still struggling to monetize, can be highly valuable in ad campaigns by reaching different consumer constituencies.

The European Union's antitrust watchdog has cleared a 7.7 billion-euro ($10 billion) takeover of Germany's biggest cable operator by British telecoms firm Vodafone PLC. Meanwhile, Verizon Communications is buying back a 45 percent stake in Verizon Wireless currently held by Vodafone.
