AT&T, IBM ally on enabling Internet of Things

The two companies said they will combine their analytic platforms, cloud, and security technologies to create services initially for city governments and midsize utilities. They intend to develop services that can integrate and analyze vast quantities of data from assets such as mass transit vehicles, utility meters, and video cameras.

Verizon tops customer service survey, Comcast last

While Verizon had the highest customer satisfaction results for its customer service calls, Comcast received the worst marks out of the nine companies that were surveyed. Out of the nine categories in the customer service survey, Comcast scored the lowest in eight, according to a survey by Vocal Laboratories (Vocalabs).

2014 connected device production to hit 6 billion

Among connected devices, those expected to enjoy higher production numbers this year include video game consoles, media tablets, mobile handsets, liquid-crystal display televisions (LCD TVs), set-top boxes and mobile PCs. In Comcast deal, victor isn't necessarily a winner

There's nothing like a bidding war to turn the stock of a lackluster company into a star. Shareholders of Time Warner Cable, which has been losing video customers, are big winners after rival Comcast agreed to buy the company for a nice premium. Whether Comcast owners will see any benefit is less certain.

Two years ago, member companies of CableLabs developed the DOCSIS Provisioning of EPON (DPoE) specification as an extension of the earlier DOCSIS certification programs with the goal of increasing interoperability and productivity, while providing cable operators with a means to deliver business connectivity services over fiber networks. The DPoE specification makes it possible to implement DOCSIS provisioning.

Malone is a tremendously astute executive, who knows full well that Wall Street loves a deal. Furthermore, TWC had been turning in some disappointing quarterly results, and Wall Streeters fervently despise disappointment. All that combined with the retirement of Glenn Britt, and TWC looked like a pretty good opportunity.
