CBS Corp. says it has made a minority investment in Syncbak, a technology company that allows mobile device users to pick up signals from their local TV stations over the Internet. The broadcaster said it would like to work closely with cable, satellite and telecommunications companies on building the capability.
Time Warner Cable has hired Phil Meeks, who had been running Cox Business for the last few years, to run its Business Services unit. Meeks will get the new title of executive vice president and chief operating officer for Business Services.
Rogers lost 25,000 TV customers, leaving it with 2.18 million at the end of the quarter. Dallas is the latest city to launch Time Warner Cable’s home automation service, which is called IntelligentHome. Time Warner Cable has previously said it planned on having IntelligentHome rolled out across its entire footprint by year’s end.
Aereo is rolling its streaming TV service into the Boston area where it will take on Comcast and RCN. Aereo will square off against Comcast’s next generation, IP/QAM-based X1 platform in Beantown, which was made its debut in Boston last year.

Time Warner Cable announced its STEM in Sports campaign to support science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. The campaign will offer parents, coaches and other adults the opportunity to get kids interested in STEM by highlighting the roles these subjects play in sports. On Friday Rogers Communications laid claim to be being the first cable operator in Canada to launch an app for streaming on demand video to LG Electronics’ smart TVs. Rogers Anyplace TV will be available on 2012 and 2013 LG Smart TVs including OLED and Ultra HD. At launch, the app will host more than 1,000 hours of content.

Comcast and the Outdoor Channel have inked a multi-year distribution agreement that made the network’s content available across Comcast’s TV Everywhere platform. Charter Communications announced a series of financial moves, most designed to manage corporate debt. One action is designed to help finance the acquisition of Bresnan Communications from Cablevision.
